NIH IMPOWR Medicaid Policy Coverage Mapping for Chronic Pain and Opioid Use Disorder
This supplemental proposal to the WF IMPOWR Dissemination Education and Coordination Center (IDEA-CC) aims to investigate Medicaid coverage and reimbursement for behavioral and integrative health interventions in chronic pain (CP) and opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment. The study will assess Medicaid policy-driven reimbursement for various provider types and treatment specifics across selected states in the IMPOWR program. The goal is to identify gaps between evidence-based care and current Medicaid policies, determining where IMPOWR interventions could be implemented under existing policies and where pilot studies may be required. This research supports the NIH HEAL Initiative's objective to enhance the impact of existing treatments for co-occurring OUD and CP, facilitating the translation of IMPOWR network findings into clinical practice and informing potential Medicaid pilot projects for beneficial treatments not yet covered by payers.
